I love my love

Composer: Holst, Gustav
Period: 20th century
Voices: SATB
Language: English
Instrumentation: A cappella

In the beginning of the 20th century, there was a revival of folk music in England and Holst was greatly influenced by this. Together with his friend Vaughan Williams, he began collecting folk-songs. The work we present here, I love my love, is a beautiful traditional Cornish song. Holst’s setting first appeared in 1917 in a collection entitled “6 Choral Folksongs”.

The arrangement of Holst produces a very narrational and lively setting, adapted to the content of each strophe. It’s very varied and he succeeds in sensitive mood-painting. Learn more about this composition by looking at the video below.
